Kokum

(In loving memory of my Kokum)

She thought of her children
As she rocked in her chair
How long it had been
Since she'd seen them all there

Yesterday they were small
Playing and learning about life
Today they are all grown
And each had a wife

Life seemed so different
For this woman of old
Yesterday was gone
Would tomorrow hold?

Her life had been good
As she thought of her past
Many blessing had been hers
And the years had gone fast

By standard of tradition
She was old & very wise
It was up to her to teach
Life seen through her eyes

Life's lessons were done
She's heard all the drums
She was ready for "The Sleep"
In life...that always comes

She thought of her children
As she rocked in her chair
She looked down the road
Suddenly! They were all there
